News Capsule: AIDA Welcomes Government’s Draft Notification
★ The All India Distillers’ Association (AIDA) has welcomed the proposed amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The draft formally recognizes E100 (pure ethanol), E85, and Hydrogen-CNG as approved fuels.
★ According to AIDA, this move elevates ethanol from being just a blending component in petrol to a standalone primary fuel, paving the way for the large-scale adoption of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) in India.
Key Highlights:
* Legal recognition: E100 and Hydrogen-CNG approved as official automotive fuels
* Boost to flex-fuel vehicles: Automakers can now mass-produce FFVs
* Reduced oil dependence: Lower import bill and foreign exchange savings
* Farmer benefits: Increased agricultural income through ethanol production
* Green energy push: Supports India’s net-zero climate goals
★ AIDA termed this development a “historic step” towards strengthening farmers’ income, industry growth, and India’s energy self-reliance.
