Kharif Crop Sowing Completed Across 139 Lakh Hectares in Maharashtra

Mumbai: In Maharashtra, a key agricultural state, the total area under Kharif crops reached 138.97 lakh hectares by August 31, 2026. This is 6.30 lakh hectares less than the 145.26 lakh hectares sown during the same period last year.

During the period under review, the area under cereal crops (paddy and coarse grains) declined from 34.51 lakh hectares to 31.18 lakh hectares; the area under pulses fell from 18.73 lakh hectares to 16.11 lakh hectares; the area under oilseeds dropped from 51.11 lakh hectares to 50.90 lakh hectares; and the cotton acreage decreased from 38.41 lakh hectares to 38.37 lakh hectares. The area under sugarcane also saw a slight decline.

It is noteworthy that Maharashtra is among the leading producers of soybean, arhar (tur), cotton, sugarcane, and maize. This season, sowing was delayed, and the total acreage saw a slight reduction.
