Kharif crop acreage in Telangana increased by 4.42 lakh acres

Hyderabad. In Telangana, an important agricultural producing state in South India, paddy, maize, black gram, sugarcane, and cotton have been cultivated on a larger area this year,
increasing the Kharif crop acreage to 133.10 lakh acres, an increase of 4.42 lakh acres from 128.68 lakh acres in the same period last year. The sowing process is almost complete.
According to a report from the State Agriculture Department, during the current Kharif season, as of September 24, 2025, the area under paddy cultivation in Telangana increased from 66.78 lakh acres to 67.30 lakh acres, and the area under maize cultivation increased from 5.24 lakh acres to 6.45 lakh acres compared to last year.
While the area under sorghum fell from 44,000 acres to 36,000 acres, the total area under paddy and coarse grains jumped from 72.48 lakh acres to 74.12 lakh acres.
However, the area under pulses fell by 32,000 acres from last year's 6.16 lakh acres to 5.84 lakh acres this time. The area under pigeon pea (tuvar) fell from 5.21 lakh acres to 4.92 lakh acres, and the area under green gram fell from 68,000 acres to 62,000 acres, while the area under black gram improved from 25,000 acres to 29,000 acres.
The sowing of oilseed crops also declined. Its production area declined from 4.12 lakh acres last year to 3.75 lakh acres this time.
Under this, the sowing area of soybean fell from 3.81 lakh acres to 3.62 acres, the area of groundnut fell from 27 thousand acres to 11 thousand acres and the area of castor fell from 2950 acres to 1300 acres.
On the other hand, the area of cotton sowing in Telangana increased from 44.75 lakh acres last year to 45.95 lakh acres this time and the area of sugarcane production jumped from 12 thousand acres to 36 thousand acres.
The rainy season is continuing in the state and the condition of the crop remains normal.
