ICE cotton futures closed Friday's session 53 to 112 points higher across most contracts. The December contract posted a weekly gain of 181 points. Crude oil prices rose by $3.21 per barrel, while the U.S. Dollar Index gained 0.016 points.
The Friday afternoon Commitment of Traders (COT) report showed that managed money funds reduced their net long position in cotton futures and options by 799 contracts during the week ending July 28, leaving their total net long at 52,410 contracts.
USDA Export Sales data showed accumulated export commitments at 12.032 million running bales (RB), equal to 102% of the USDA export projection. Total shipments reached 10.908 million RB, representing 93% of the USDA estimate and trailing last year's shipping pace of 96%. New-crop export business stood at 2.879 million RB, up 36.72% from the same period a year ago.
The Cotlook A Index fell another 100 points on Thursday to 88.75 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 90,699 bales as of July 30. Meanwhile, the Adjusted World Price (AWP) increased by 84 points on Thursday to 64.66 cents per pound.
