Kochi. India remains the world's leading producer, consumer, and exporter of spices. Last year, India exported over 1.8 million tons of whole spices and value-added spice products worth over $4 billion. This clearly indicates that Indian spices are highly sought after in the international market, and despite serious challenges from various supplier countries, its export business is steadily growing.
Trade analysts say that the time has come for India to prioritize the production and export of value-added spice products over whole spices. Spices are exported from India on a large scale to many countries around the world, but importing countries are now enacting strict and complex regulations regarding quality and the presence of foreign substances, which require vigilance and awareness.
To maintain India's number one position in spice exports, coordination among Indian producers, traders, entrepreneurs, and exporters is essential. The Spice Board is playing a key role in this regard.
