★ In April 2025, India imported 98,798 metric tons of urad (black matpe), registering a sharp increase of nearly 78% compared to 55,435 tons in April 2024. Imports for May 2025 are estimated at 51,604 metric tons, bringing the total projected imports for April–May FY 2025–26 to 1,50,402 metric tons.

★ India imported the highest volume of urad from Myanmar, totaling 7,15,924 metric tons. Other notable exporters include Brazil, Singapore, UAE, and Thailand.
★ Supply from Myanmar remains consistent due to record production, while Brazil is gradually ramping up its output. Rising import volumes have ensured ample domestic availability of urad in India.
★ If domestic demand picks up in the coming months, it could lend limited support to prices. However, much will depend on the upcoming sowing progress and domestic crop conditions, which warrant close monitoring.
