Thiruvananthapuram. Due to favorable conditions in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, the southwest monsoon is likely to strengthen and become more active, leading to heavy rainfall in several regions across the country in the coming days.

Eastern India, central parts, and northwestern states are expected to witness normal to heavy showers. States like Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab may receive widespread rainfall during this period.

Although the monsoon typically covers the entire country by July 8, this year it is progressing ahead of schedule. Had a western disturbance been active in the northwestern region, the monsoon's intensity could have increased further due to enhanced interaction.

However, there is currently no sign of such a disturbance developing over Iran, Afghanistan, or Pakistan, making its arrival in India unlikely at least until the end of June.

The monsoon is expected to advance steadily. There may be short pauses or slowdowns, but these are not likely to last long, and rainfall will continue in many parts.

July, known for being the rainiest month of the monsoon season, is approaching and is expected to bring widespread precipitation.

At the national level, rainfall was recorded at 2 percent above normal by June 24. Earlier, there was a 31 percent deficit as of June 15, which narrowed to 1 percent below normal by June 23. On June 23–24, heavy rains were reported in the hills of West Bengal,

Sikkim, East Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa. Very heavy rainfall also occurred in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Central Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka.

Farmers received much-needed relief in areas that had been deprived of rain, including Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and both North and South Interior Karnataka.
