Mumbai. Industry and trade analysts have estimated that a sugar quota ranging between 22.50 and 23.00 lakh tonnes will be allocated for domestic sales during June 2026. A quota of 22.50 lakh tonnes was released for May, whereas a quota of 23 lakh tonnes was allocated in June 2025.
According to industry observers, if a quota of 22.50–23.00 lakh tonnes is announced, it will be sufficient to meet domestic demand and requirements during June. Sugar consumption may witness a slight decline in June due to the active phase of the South-West monsoon.
The Ministry of Food is expected to announce the free sale sugar quota for June within the next one or two days. It is anticipated that the entire quota of 22.50 lakh tonnes allocated for May 2026 will be fully sold, as industrial demand for sugar has surged significantly due to the intense heat, thereby keeping prices firm.
According to an analyst, several mills were compelled to sell quantities exceeding their allocated quotas during the current month, as robust demand persisted across sectors involving bulk consumption. This includes the ice cream and soft drink industries.
