New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast nationwide rainfall at 90 percent of the long-period average for the current monsoon season; however, it has predicted normal or above-normal rainfall for specific states and regions.

These include the Western Himalayan region (primarily Ladakh and parts of Jammu & Kashmir), several areas in Northeast India, and states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha.

In most other parts of the country, monsoon rainfall is expected to be either normal or below normal. It is worth noting that Telangana, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh are among India's major paddy-producing states.

Barring Assam, agricultural output in the remaining states of the Northeast region is not significant, and Jammu & Kashmir is also not counted among the major agricultural producers.

Conversely, top paddy-producing states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and West Bengal may face a slight rainfall deficit this year.

Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh are the leading producers of pulses and oilseeds; these regions, too, may experience somewhat lower rainfall.
