Decline in Pepper Production Expected to Continue

Kochi. The International Pepper Community (IPC) had estimated India's pepper production at 126,000 tons in 2024, and projected it to decline to 85,000 tons in 2025. It has now projected a further decline to 74,000 tons in 2026.

According to the latest IPC data, India's total pepper availability is expected to reach 138,880 tons in 2026, with a carryover stock of 26,880 tons,

potential production of 74,000 tons, and estimated imports of 88,000 tons. Of this, 100,500 tons are expected for domestic consumption and 22,000 tons for export, leaving a surplus stock of 16,380 tons at the end of the year.

According to IPC's projections for 2025, the previous stock of black pepper was 54,980 tonnes, and production of 85,000 tonnes and import of 41,000 tonnes is expected. Of this, 131,600 tonnes are expected to be consumed domestically and 22,500 tonnes are expected to be exported,

resulting in a surplus stock of 26,880 tonnes by the end of 2025. Previously, India had projected a robust production of 1.26 lakh tonnes of black pepper in 2024, while domestic consumption had also increased to over 1.41 lakh tonnes.
