AWL Imports Largest Single Consignment of Degummed Soybean Oil

Mumbai: AWL Agri-Business, a leading company in the domestic vegetable oil industry and trade sector, has imported 66,800 tonnes of crude degummed soybean oil in a single consignment—marking the largest single-shipment import of this commodity at any Indian port.

A vessel loaded with degummed soybean oil departed from the port of San Lorenzo in Argentina and arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat, where it was discharged. The company operates a refining unit at Mundra, where the imported soybean oil will be processed and refined. It is worth noting that Argentina is the primary source of India's imports of degummed (crude) soybean oil.

Typically, an import volume of 66,000–67,000 tonnes of soybean oil would be transported via three or four smaller vessels; however, AWL opted to bring the entire quantity in a single large vessel. This approach resulted in lower shipping costs per tonne and reduced port-related expenses. This massive volume of imported oil will enable the refinery to remain operational for an extended period.
