Australia's almond production is expected to improve due to increased acreage under plantations

Canberra. The Australian almond industry expects significantly improved production this year compared to last year, driven by increased almond plantation area and favorable weather conditions.
Almond orchards have been planted in some new areas, where production is now about to begin. However, producers are concerned about a particular factor: the Australian dollar remains strong against other foreign currencies, which could impact exports.
Almond production in Australia is expected to increase to approximately 167,000 tonnes during the new season. According to the Chairman of the Almond Board of Australia, domestic almond production during the current year will be approximately 7 percent higher than last year and approximately 3,000 tonnes higher than the previous record production.
According to the Chairman, during the expansion phase from 2017 to 2019, approximately 20,000 hectares of almond orchards were planted in Australia, where the trees are now fully mature and capable of producing.
In recent months, almond prices in Australia have remained firmly stable at extremely high levels, while currency strength remains a serious concern for producers. Since export contracts are denominated in US dollars, grower income could be significantly affected. Harvesting has already begun and is expected to be completed in April.
