Agreement Between Food Ministry and FCI on Food Grain Management

New Delhi: An agreement has been reached between the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Union Ministry of Food to enhance efficiency in food grain management, storage, and operations; modernize warehouses; adopt digital processes; and strengthen the transportation system. It is noteworthy that the FCI is the nodal agency for the procurement, storage, maintenance, and distribution of food grains and operates under the Ministry of Food.

An official statement noted that the agreement between the Department of Food and Public Distribution and the FCI will be valid for the current financial year. This will assist the FCI in establishing a comprehensive performance network and facilitate the setting of targets.

It will provide the Corporation with an opportunity to improve operational efficiency, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and adopt modern systems for food grain management.

Special emphasis will be placed on reducing food grain losses during storage and transportation, while also ensuring the optimal utilization of storage capacity. Additionally, significant focus will be directed towards strengthening quality control systems.
