Sydney. The Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (GIWA) has projected that production of major agricultural crops in the state will rise sharply to a peak of 27.353 million tonnes during the current 2025-26 marketing season, an increase of 0.8 million tonnes from the December 2025 estimate of 26.55 million tonnes and the fourth record production in the last five years. According to the GIWA report, the significant increase in production is due to increased sown area and improved average yields.
According to GIWA, Western Australia will produce a robust total of 27.353 million tonnes of agricultural produce during the 2025-26 season, including 13.3 million tonnes of wheat, 7.64 million tonnes of barley, 4.37 million tonnes of canola, 1.018 million tonnes of oats, 9.05 million tonnes of lupin, and 1.20 million tonnes of pulses. Harvesting has concluded.
In 2022, Western Australia's agricultural crop acreage reached a new record level, while the 2025-26 season saw a total area increase by 6.8 percent. This increase was primarily in areas with higher rainfall. Abundant rainfall occurred during the months of July and August, and temperatures were favorable during grain setting and grain filling. This led to significantly higher yields.
Although, compared to the record levels of 2022, Western Australia's wheat acreage declined by 3.3 percent and canola acreage declined by 7.3 percent in 2025, barley acreage increased by 26.4 percent, lupin acreage by 17.4 percent, and oat acreage increased by 65 percent. Of the five port zones in Western Australia, three experienced record crop production, while the remaining two experienced normal production.
