Urad Prices Witness Slight Recovery Amidst Improved Demand

Chennai: Driven by a recovery in demand, Urad prices recorded a modest improvement during the current week. However, the market rally remained limited, as the availability of both domestic supplies and imported stock remained consistent. Sowing of Urad during the current summer season has been higher compared to the previous year. Arrivals of the summer crop have also commenced in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, leading to increased pressure from fresh arrivals in key producer markets—an impact that is now visible in prices. According to market experts, the uptake of Urad dal remains limited at present; consequently, dal mills are procuring only as per their immediate requirements. On the other hand, market supply remains adequate due to the continued arrival of regular shipments of imported Urad. Traders note that despite it being a peak consumption season, demand for Urad dal remains weaker than anticipated. For this reason, the likelihood of any major upward surge in the domestic market appears low for the time being. Supported by limited selling pressure from importers and an improvement in demand, Chennai Urad prices recorded a recovery of ₹50–100 per quintal this week. By the weekend, prices settled at ₹7,950 per quintal for FAQ (Fair Average Quality) Urad and ₹8,700 per quintal for SQ (Superior Quality) Urad. Similarly, Mumbai Urad prices also registered an increase of ₹50 per quintal this week, reaching ₹7,950 per quintal by the weekend.
Burma

Delhi
