Pea Prices Recover Amidst Increased Buying Activity

Kanpur. During the current week, an improvement in pea prices was recorded as selling pressure eased at lower price levels and market demand showed signs of recovery. With prices having dropped to significantly low levels in recent days, buyer activity in the market has intensified, thereby providing support to prices. According to trade sources, current price levels appear profitable for traders, a factor driving the observed uptick in buying activity. Meanwhile, market sentiment remains robust, bolstered by healthy local and inter-state demand. Market experts suggest that if the current trend in demand persists and selling pressure remains limited, a bullish environment could emerge in the pea market in the near future. Due to reduced selling by importers and increased buying activity, imported pea prices registered a recovery of ₹50–75 per quintal during the current week. Following this recovery, prices at the week's end stood at ₹4,100 per quintal for Canadian peas and ₹3,975 per quintal for Russian peas at Mundra Port; similarly, at Hazira Port, prices reached ₹4,150 per quintal for Canadian peas and ₹4,050 per quintal for Russian peas. Driven by increased buying from stockists, Kanpur pea prices recorded a rise of ₹75 per quintal this week, bringing the price level to ₹4,425 per quintal. Similarly, Lalitpur pea prices rose by ₹100 per quintal, reaching a range of ₹3,900–4,300 per quintal by the end of the week. Sustained buying activity led to a rise of ₹100 per quintal in Rath pea prices, closing the week at ₹4,300–4,500 per quintal. Finally, increased buying also triggered a surge of ₹100 per quintal in Mauranipur pea prices, bringing them to a range of ₹4,100–4,300 per quintal by the week's end. Due to subdued buying and selling activity, no significant fluctuation was observed in the prices of Madhya Pradesh peas this week. By the end of the week, prices settled at ₹3,800–₹4,250 per quintal in Bina and ₹4,000–₹4,250 per quintal in Damoh.
Canada
Prices for yellow peas remain firm in Western Canadian markets, driven by robust trading activity and rising export demand. Currently, the price of yellow peas is stable at $8.00–$8.50 per bushel, although in some regions, prices have reached as high as $9 per bushel. According to trade sources, the market is receiving support from demand across several nations, including China, India, and Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the sowing of the new crop is proceeding vigorously in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta, and weather conditions remain favorable. Market experts suggest that arrivals of the new crop are expected to commence in August or September. However, in the global market, Canada is facing stiff competition from Russia.
Split Peas (Matar Dal)
Due to sluggish demand, prices for split peas witnessed minor fluctuations—ranging from a rise to a fall of ₹50 per quintal—during the current week. By the end of the week, prices settled at ₹4,750–₹4,900 per quintal in Kanpur and ₹4,800–₹4,950 per quintal in Indore.
