Weekly Review – Tur (Pigeon Pea)
Tur Prices Rise: Market Strengthens Amid Limited Arrivals and Robust Demand
Mumbai: Tur prices witnessed a significant upward trend during the current week, bolstered by continued limited arrivals in producing markets and strong underlying demand. Arrivals of Tur in producing *mandis* (wholesale markets) have been gradually tapering off, leading to a reduction in supply pressure within the market. In light of the declining arrivals, activity among stockists and pulse millers has intensified, thereby sustaining a bullish sentiment in the market. Importers are currently facing a price disparity at prevailing rates, which has kept selling pressure at a minimum and continues to lend support to the rising prices. Driven by reduced selling activity from importers and robust demand, the price of African Tur in the Mumbai market recorded an increase of ₹150–200 per quintal this week. Following this hike, prices at the weekend stood as follows (per quintal): Mozambique White at ₹6,300–6,350; Gajri at ₹6,200–6,250; Matwara at ₹6,150–6,175; Malawi at ₹5,900–5,950; and Sudan at ₹7,900–7,950. Meanwhile, in the Chennai market, Tur Lemon prices also witnessed an increase of ₹100 per quintal this week, bringing the price to ₹7,750 per quintal by the weekend.
