Groundnut Prices Rise in UP and Maharashtra Driven by Trade Buying
New Delhi: Groundnut prices remained stable at Gujarat's Rajkot market during the week of May 9–15. Rajasthan's Bikaner market also remained quiet; however, a significant surge of ₹900 per quintal was recorded in Solapur, Maharashtra. In Uttar Pradesh (UP), prices improved by ₹300 per quintal in Jhansi, and by ₹200 per quintal each in Mahoba and Mauranipur. In all markets, prices are currently trading at levels either above or on par with the Minimum Support Price (MSP), thereby ensuring good returns for farmers.
Groundnut Kernels
Driven by robust trading activity in shelled groundnut kernels, prices witnessed a sharp rise in Solapur and Nagpur, Maharashtra. In Solapur, the price of 80/90 count groundnut kernels surged by ₹900, reaching ₹12,000 per quintal. Similarly, in Nagpur, the price of 50/60 count kernels rose by ₹700 to reach ₹12,900 per quintal. The 60/70 count variety also witnessed an upward trend of ₹500.
Groundnut Oil
Trading in loose groundnut oil slowed down slightly at higher price levels, resulting in a softening of prices by ₹20–25 per 10 kg. In Gujarat—specifically in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh, and Jamnagar—groundnut oil prices dropped by ₹25 to settle at ₹1,575 per 10 kg. Prices for the 15-kg oil tins also softened by ₹35. In other trading centers, prices declined by ₹15–20 per 10 kg.
Branded Oils
Amidst limited trading activity in Kota, the price of branded groundnut oil remained steady at ₹2,850 per tin (15 liters), while the prices of filtered groundnut oil witnessed a slight softening in Jaipur and Newai. In Bikaner, groundnut oil cake saw robust trading, with prices improving by ₹300 to reach the range of ₹46,000–₹51,000 per ton.
