Turvar market declines as buying remains subdued

Mumbai. The turvar market remained weak during the current week due to elevated prices and sluggish demand. Turvar prices, which had been trading at elevated levels for some time, are now experiencing a steady decline. According to market experts, increased arrivals of new turvar in producing markets and limited offtake of tur dal have led to weak buying by millers, further pressuring prices. The availability of new crop has begun to increase in major markets in producing states. Supply pressure is clearly visible in the market as farmers have begun selling new produce. On the other hand, demand for tur dal at the retail and wholesale levels has not increased as expected. Due to normal domestic consumption and limited activity from large buyers, millers are adopting a cautious stance. As a result, they are only lifting goods as needed, preventing competitive buying in the open market. Market experts believe that if the demand for pulses does not improve in the coming days and the arrival of the new crop continues to increase, further pressure on prices may be seen. However, limited selling at lower levels and increased government procurement may provide support to prices.
Due to increased selling by importers and weak demand, Mumbai African Tur prices declined by Rs 75/150 per quintal this week.
