Pigeon Pea Prices Rise, Limited Arrivals Strengthen Market

Mumbai: Pigeon pea prices showed an upward trend during the current week. According to traders, prices remained firm due to weak selling pressure and strong demand. Damage to the pigeon pea crop due to unseasonal rains has affected the productivity of the new crop, which has directly impacted arrivals in producing markets. Traders say that compared to the last season, the arrival of pigeon peas in producing markets has decreased by approximately 50 percent in the current season. Currently, there is no pressure on the markets. Strong buying by stockists and millers amidst limited supply is further supporting prices. Market experts believe that if arrivals do not improve in the coming days and demand remains strong, the upward trend in pigeon pea prices may continue. Due to weak selling by importers and continued strong demand, Mumbai African pigeon pea prices increased by Rs. 200/250 per quintal this week, and with this increase, the prices at the end of the week were: Mozambique White Rs. 5550/5600, Gazri Rs. 5450/5500, Matwara Rs. 5350/5400, Malawi Rs. 4950/5000, and Sudan Rs. 6750/6800 per quintal.
