Sugar Production Increases: NFCSF
★ According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF), sugar production from the season that began on 1 October reached 24.63 million tonnes as of 28 February, compared to 22.005 million tonnes during the same period last year. Sugar recovery also improved by 0.22%, reaching 9.44%.
★ Out of the country’s 536 sugar mills, 288 mills are currently crushing, while 248 mills have closed operations for the season.
★ State-wise production figures (up to 28 February):
Uttar Pradesh: 7.01 million tonnes (last year: 7.24 million tonnes)
Maharashtra: 9.52 million tonnes (last year: 7.42 million tonnes)
Karnataka: 4.405 million tonnes (last year: 3.83 million tonnes)
★ Meanwhile, the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has estimated sugar production at 24.75 million tonnes for the same period, compared to 22.02 million tonnes last year.
★ According to ISMA, 305 mills are currently crushing, compared to 330 mills during the same period last year.

Maharashtra: 9.5 million tonnes (last year: 7.5 million tonnes)
Karnataka: 4.5 million tonnes (last year: 3.8 million tonnes)
Uttar Pradesh: 7.5 million tonnes (last year: 7.3 million tonnes)
★ Overall, sugar production remains significantly stronger compared to last year.
