Paddy and rice prices improve due to strong demand from millers and exporters

New Delhi. The sharp depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar has made Indian rice highly competitive in the global export market, which is expected to increase demand from importing countries, especially for Basmati rice. In view of this, millers, processors, traders, and stockists are showing good interest in purchasing paddy and rice.
Delhi
During the week of December 6-12, daily arrivals of paddy in Delhi's Narela mandi ranged between 20,000 and 50,000 bags, and the price of 1718 paddy increased by Rs. 175 to Rs. 3625 per quintal. In the Najafgarh mandi, a supply of 3,000 to 6,000 bags of paddy was recorded, with a price increase of Rs. 60 to 80 per quintal.
Chhattisgarh
In Chhattisgarh's Bhatapara and Rajim mandis, daily paddy arrivals were between 5,000 and 6,000 bags, and prices remained slightly soft due to weak demand. In Amritsar, Punjab, paddy arrivals are decreasing, and prices have stabilized. However, in Tarn Taran, due to limited arrivals and strong demand, the price of 1121 paddy jumped by Rs. 230 to Rs. 4230 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh's Etah, Mainpuri, Jahangirabad, Shahjahanpur, and Aligarh, and in Tarawadi, Haryana, a large supply of Basmati paddy continues, and prices are generally showing an increase of Rs. 100-150 per quintal. This clearly indicates that buyers' interest in purchasing Basmati paddy remains strong.
