Moong prices decline due to increased selling pressure and weak demand
Moong prices witnessed a downward trend this week, driven by heightened selling pressure in the domestic market and persistent weak demand. The market is facing supply pressure due to the ongoing arrival of Kharif-season Moong from producing states, coupled with the offloading of stocks by central agencies. Meanwhile, due to sluggish demand for Moong dal (split green gram), millers are purchasing only what is strictly necessary; this has kept buying activity limited and prevented prices from finding adequate support. However, there are concerns that Moong yields in several states may be impacted by a deficit in monsoon rainfall during the current Kharif season. This could potentially lead to a decline in total production, which might provide support to the market in the coming months. Nevertheless, with over 8 lakh tonnes of Moong currently held in the central pool and continued offloading by government agencies, the supply situation remains robust. Given the substantial government stocks and weak consumer demand, the scope for a price rally remains limited for now. In the Delhi market, Moong prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal this week, settling in the range of Rs 7,800–8,500 per quintal.
Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, prices for Moong declined by Rs 150–300 per quintal this week, as supplies remained steady in producing-region markets while buying interest from stockists and millers weakened. Consequently, prices stood at Rs 7,300–8,600 per quintal in Jodhpur, Rs 7,200–8,200 in Jaipur, Rs 7,000–8,500 in Merta, Rs 7,500–8,600 in Nagaur, and Rs 7,000–8,200 per quintal in Kishangarh. Madhya Pradesh
Due to weak buying interest, prices of moong (green gram) in Madhya Pradesh saw a decline of ₹100–300 per quintal during the current week. By the end of the week, prices stood at ₹6,000–8,000 per quintal in Pipariya, ₹8,000–8,500 in Indore, ₹7,000–7,500 in Jabalpur, and ₹6,300–7,600 in Kareli.
Maharashtra
Due to subdued demand, moong prices in Maharashtra recorded a decline of ₹100–200 per quintal during the current week. By the end of the week, prices were ₹8,000–10,500 per quintal in Latur, ₹7,250–9,450 in Akola, ₹8,500–10,000 in Barshi, ₹8,500–10,500 in Ahmednagar, ₹7,000–8,200 in Jalgaon, and ₹8,000–9,500 in Khamgaon.
Others
Due to sluggish demand, no fluctuations were observed in moong prices in Lalitpur this week, with prices remaining stable at ₹7,000–7,500 per quintal by the end of the week. Similarly, no movement was seen in moong prices in Rajkot, where they remained steady at ₹8,000–9,000 per quintal.
