Lentil prices continue to decline due to a lack of demand

Mumbai. Selling pressure persisted in the lentil market during the current week, while demand remained subdued. Weak demand led to a downward trend in lentil prices, and the market remained under pressure throughout the week. Weak offtake of lentils limited purchases by lentil millers, which prevented the market from providing the expected support. Consumer demand remains below normal, while stockists are currently adopting a cautious stance. Furthermore, increased availability of imported lentils at the port has led to continued selling pressure from importers. Supply in the domestic market has remained comfortable due to increased arrivals, leading to further weakness in lentil prices.
Due to increased availability of imported lentils at the port, the selling pressure of importers increased due to which the prices of imported lentils declined by Rs 150/200 per quintal during the current week and with this decline, the prices at the end of the week remained at Rs 5400 for Mundra, Rs 5450 for Hazira, Rs 5700 for Container Canada and Rs 5800 for Australia. Similarly, the prices of Kolkata lentils also declined by Rs 100/150 per quintal this week and the prices at the end of the week remained at Rs 5600/5650 for Australia and Rs 5550/5600 for Canada.
Delhi
Due to increased selling by stockists, the price of large lentils in Delhi declined by Rs. 125 and small lentils by Rs. 100 per quintal during the current week, and the prices at the weekend were Rs. 6700 for small Kota, Rs. 7500 for Bundi, Rs. 7600 for Uttar Pradesh, and Rs. 6350 for large Desi.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to sluggish demand, the prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh declined by Rs. 150/300 per quintal this week, and the weekend prices were Rs. 5300/5800 for Ashoknagar, Rs. 5900/6100 for Bina, Rs. 5800/6100 for Ganjbasoda, Rs. 5800/6100 for Sagar, Rs. 5600/5850 for Damoh, Rs. 5700/6000 for Indore, Rs. 5650/5700 for Kareli, Rs. 5252/6350 for Katni and Rs. 6200 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to subdued buying, small lentil prices in Uttar Pradesh declined by Rs. 300 and large lentil prices declined by Rs. 150 per quintal during the current week, with prices at Bareilly small (Rs. 8400), thick (Rs. 6300), Lalitpur thick (Rs. 5500/5800), small (Rs. 6500/6600), and Orai (Rs. 4800/5400) per quintal.
Other
Due to the widespread decline and subdued buying, Bihar lentil prices declined by Rs. 200 per quintal this week, with prices at Barh (Rs. 6300), Khusrupur (Rs. 6200), and Mokama (Rs. 6300). Similarly, Raipur lentil prices also declined by Rs. 200 per quintal this week, closing at Rs. 5900 per quintal.
Masoor Dal
Due to the fall in the price of Masoor and sluggish demand, the prices of Masoor Dal declined by Rs 150/300 per quintal during the current week and at the weekend the prices remained at Rs 6800/7000 in Indore, Rs 7300/7600 in Barh, Rs 7200/7500 in Khushrupur, Rs 7300/7600 in Mokama, Rs 9000/10000 in Chandausi and Rs 7500 in Hyderabad per quintal.
