Hanoi. Although Vietnam's rice export volume has increased this year compared to last year, export revenue has declined due to weak prices in the international market.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, during the first five months of 2025 (January–May), Vietnam exported around 4.5 million tonnes of rice, generating export earnings of $2.34 billion.

This marks a 12.2 percent increase in quantity compared to last year, but an 8.9 percent decrease in income. The sharp fall in export revenue is mainly attributed to the significantly lower free-on-board average unit export price of rice, which is down 18.7 percent or about $0.516 per kg compared to last year.

The price of paddy in the Mekong Delta—the country’s main rice-producing region—has remained stable in recent days. In provinces like Vinh Long and Tien Giang, the IR 50404 variety of rice is priced at 6,600 dong (Vietnamese currency) or $0.26 per kg. Other varieties are priced between 7,000 and 8,100 dong per kg.

The price of Jasmine rice has risen to 8,400 dong per kg, while the ST 25 variety remains the most expensive at 9,500 dong per kg.

In Giang province, newly harvested rice is being traded at 5,400–5,600 dong per kg, and prices of other varieties have also softened somewhat.

Retail rice prices vary widely. Jasmine rice is being sold for 16,000–18,000 dong per kg, while long-grain aromatic rice imported from Thailand is priced at 20,000–22,000 dong per kg. Taiwanese aromatic rice is also available at 20,000 dong per kg.
