Lucknow. A target has been set for the government procurement of 6.5 million tonnes (65 lakh tonnes) of paddy from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Uttar Pradesh for the current 2026-27 Kharif marketing season. This is 0.3 million tonnes (3 lakh tonnes) more than the total actual procurement of 6.2 million tonnes (62 lakh tonnes) recorded in the previous marketing season.
Paddy will be procured through eight government agencies across 4,000 procurement centres in the state, of which 4,195 centres are already operational. In Eastern Uttar Pradesh, the paddy procurement process will commence on November 1, 2026, and continue until February 28, 2027.
Given the current weather conditions, the Chief Minister has directed all relevant officials to ensure that all necessary facilities are available at the procurement centres so that farmers face no difficulties in selling their produce.
It is noteworthy that the Central Government has increased the MSP for paddy for the 2026-27 season, setting it at ₹2,441 per quintal for the 'common' category and ₹2,461 per quintal for 'Grade A' paddy. Payments for the procured paddy will be made within 48 hours.
