Sugar Prices Expected to Remain Firm Next Month

New Delhi. Given that the free-sale quota for May 2026 is smaller than anticipated, and considering the likelihood of increased demand and consumption, sugar prices are expected to remain firm in the near future. During the summer season, there is typically a substantial consumption of sugar in the production of soft drinks, ice creams, and similar products.

Furthermore, May marks the wedding season, which presents strong prospects for a rise in sugar utilization. In light of the anticipated robust growth in demand and consumption, the free-sale quota allocated for sugar in May appears somewhat insufficient.

According to a leading trading firm, it would come as no surprise if domestic sugar consumption in May reaches 2.4 million tonnes, even though the allocated quota has been fixed at only 2.25 million tonnes.

The sugar production season has concluded; consequently, millers will now focus their entire attention on selling their existing stocks. This presents millers with an excellent opportunity to formulate their business strategies.

Domestic sugar consumption remained robust in April as well, ensuring that mills faced no significant difficulties in selling their allocated quotas. It is highly probable that the entire quota will be successfully sold in May as well.
