New Delhi. Strong arrivals of various rabi crops are being witnessed in wholesale mandis across most major agricultural producing states of the country. These include wheat, chana (gram), masoor (lentil), peas, along with barley and maize.
In Punjab and Haryana, wheat arrivals have started in small quantities, while government procurement is scheduled to begin from April 1. On the other hand, procurement has already started in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Government procurement of chana is also underway. Earlier it was mainly limited to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, but now procurement is likely to gain momentum in major producing states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as market prices have fallen below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The condition of the mustard market remains satisfactory. Despite heavy arrivals, prices have not weakened significantly. Strong arrivals of rabi crops are expected to continue in mandis during the next two months (April–May), after which the pace of supply is likely to slow down.
