No possibility of increase
New Delhi. The arrival of new small cardamom has started at the production centers and this year the production is also reported to be higher than last year. Sources say that due to speculation, the trade of small cardamom is being badly affected. It is worth mentioning that due to the government action against speculators in the past few days, speculation has been curbed in Gwalior. But currently speculation is going on in full swing in Raipur. Sources say that some traders have formed a group and whenever they want, they increase the prices and whenever they want, they reduce them. Due to which the small trader is getting affected.
Yield
During the current financial year, due to the weather being favorable for the crop in the major producing states Kerala, Tamil Nadu, there are reports of the production being higher than last year. Sources believe that during the current season, the production of small cardamom in the country is estimated to be 28/30 thousand tonnes. Whereas last year the production was considered to be 23/25 thousand tonnes.
Slow-fast
Due to the slow arrival of new goods at the production centers and low local demand, the prices of small cardamom are currently suppressed. There is no possibility of a rise in prices in the near future. Provided that the weather remains favorable for the crop in the coming days as well because the arrival of new goods will be in full swing in the month of August.
Export
According to the data released by the Spices Board, during the year 2024-25 (April-March), the export of small cardamom was 6727.80 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 156682 lakh. Whereas in the year 2023-24 export was 6168.13 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 99960 lakh.
Import
Although the production of small cardamom in the country is sufficient, but despite this the importers import from abroad. Because the quality of foreign goods is low, the prices are lower than Indian cardamom. According to the data released by the Spices Board, the import of small cardamom during the year 2024-25 was 1318 tonnes. Whereas in the year 2023-24, the import was 2552 tonnes. In the year 2020-21, the import was only 311 tonnes.
