New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Minister has urged farmers across the country not to limit themselves to the production of cereal crops alone but to focus on cultivating a variety of crops by adopting integrated farming methods. Appealing to the farming community to share their suggestions, the Minister promised that necessary action would be taken on these ideas and suggestions.
Addressing the two-day National FPO Conclave 2025 in New Delhi, the Agriculture Minister urged Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to work diligently in the interests of the country's small farmers and ensure year-on-year growth in their turnover and profits.
The Minister also emphasized the need for rehabilitation and quality improvement to maximize the income of member farmers.
The Agriculture Minister stated that to ensure better returns, the government will promote integrated farming and encourage farmers to focus on allied activities such as poultry, animal husbandry, and dairy, in addition to their primary crops.
This will provide farmers with income from multiple sources. He stated that simply producing grain is not sufficient; it is also essential to adopt other related measures.
The Union Agriculture Minister stated that a stringent farmer-friendly seed law will be proposed in Parliament during the next budget session.
It will include strict provisions to regulate seed quality. Farmers often suffer heavy losses due to spurious or substandard seeds, a practice the government aims to curb.
