Significant Exports of Peas from Canada to India and Other Nations

Vancouver. The import of a substantial quantity of yellow peas from Canada into India has somewhat eased the complexities surrounding supply and availability, though stocks held by millers and processors have begun to decline. India also sources large volumes of yellow peas from Russia and Ukraine; however, shipments from these regions are currently hindered due to the insecurity of the Black Sea maritime route.

Demand for Canadian peas remains robust in other Asian nations, including China. Consequently, there is a firm trend in pea prices. Anticipating favorable returns, Canadian farmers are bringing significant quantities of peas to the market, which has facilitated smoother supply and availability—preventing any sharp, aggressive surge in prices. Although pea production in Canada has declined this year, substantial carry-over stocks from the previous season are expected to keep overall availability at a normal level.

In Western Canada—particularly in the province of Saskatchewan—the price of yellow peas has strengthened to $9.00–$9.50 per bushel, while green peas are trading at approximately $10.00 per bushel. It is likely that pea prices in the region will remain firm in the near future.
