Sharp Decline in Soymeal Production and Exports in August

Indore. Crushing and processing units were forced to limit their soybean purchases due to reduced supplies and high prices in the markets of major producing states. Consequently, the production of soybean DOC (De-oiled Cake) declined. Similarly, exports of soymeal saw a sharp drop as prices became uncompetitive in the international market; however, domestic demand remained robust.

According to a report by the Indore-based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), India's soymeal exports plummeted by over 83 percent—falling from 1.50 lakh tonnes in August 2025 to just 25,000 tonnes in August 2026. This marked the ninth consecutive month of decline in soymeal exports during the current marketing season compared to the previous year. The report indicates that during the first 11 months of the current marketing season (October 2025 to August 2026), the country shipped only 9.97 lakh tonnes of soymeal, a 46 percent decrease from the 18.60 lakh tonnes exported during the same period of the 2024-25 season.

SOPA's report further states that domestic soymeal production fell to 6.12 lakh tonnes in August 2026, down 14 percent from the 7.10 lakh tonnes produced in August 2025. Similarly, total domestic soymeal production during the first 11 months of the current marketing season reached 76.70 lakh tonnes, approximately 7 percent lower than the 82.90 lakh tonnes produced in the previous marketing season. Soybean arrivals at the national level stood at approximately 3.50 lakh tonnes in August 2026, compared to 4 lakh tonnes recorded in August 2025.
