New Delhi. The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has said that the ethanol blending program is gaining momentum in India and now research is on mixing 15% ethanol in diesel.

Work is underway to encourage this. According to the Highways Minister, ethanol can play a very important role in achieving the goals of green energy in India and reducing dependence on fossil fuels (petroleum).

According to the Road Transport Minister, Indian Oil (company) has decided to set up 400 pump stations for ethanol while vehicle manufacturing companies are preparing to launch flex engine vehicles.

Ethanol bikes of some major companies are ready to run on the road as soon as the necessary infrastructure is developed and expanded.

The government is making every effort to increase the production and use of ethanol. The sugar industry has been given a free hand to use sugarcane for ethanol production and it has been decided to provide 23 lakh tonnes of rice stock from Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns to grain-based distilleries.

The government is planning to increase the level of ethanol blending in petrol on a regular basis. The purchase price of ethanol for oil marketing companies is being increased.

Apart from this, the use of maize is being promoted in ethanol production, which will also benefit farmers. India is gradually joining the list of leading ethanol producing countries.
