Relief given to farmers in wheat procurement in Haryana

Due to untimely rainfall, the wheat crop in Haryana has been adversely affected. To reduce farmers’ hardship and prevent distress sales at lower prices, the government has decided to relax wheat procurement specifications as follows:

Key relaxations:

1. Lustre Loss

The maximum limit has been increased up to 70%.

2. Shrivelled and Broken Grains

The limit has been increased to 15%, which was earlier 6%.

3. Damaged and Slightly Damaged Grains

The combined limit will not exceed 6%.

4. Separate Storage

Wheat procured under relaxed norms will be stored and accounted for separately.

5. Responsibility for Quality

Any deterioration in quality during storage will be the responsibility of the Haryana State Government.

6. Disposal

Such wheat stocks will be liquidated on a priority basis.

7. Financial Responsibility

All financial and operational implications arising from this relaxation will be borne by the State Government.
