Rainfall Tracker: Monsoon Status from June 1 to June 8 – India Meteorological Department (IMD)

★ Monsoon hits a speed breaker, pace slows down

★ The monsoon began with strong momentum and even arrived earlier than usual.

★ During the period from June 1 to 8, the country recorded an average rainfall of 20.4 mm, which is 25% below normal.

Rainfall by region is as follows:

★ East and Northeast India received the highest rainfall — 67.5 mm, which is 4% above normal.

★ Northwest India recorded 11.9 mm of rainfall, 10% below normal.

★ Central India received 11.0 mm, 44% below normal.

★ The worst-hit region was South Peninsular India, with only 11.7 mm of rainfall — a significant 67% shortfall from normal.

★ These figures are concerning for the whole country, as a 25% deficit has already been recorded in just the first week of the monsoon.

★ In a previous report, I-Grain India had noted that the early arrival of the monsoon does not necessarily mean it will maintain momentum or perform well.
