London. The International Grains Council (IGC) has projected that global maize production will decline from 1.33 billion tonnes in the 2025-26 season to settle at 1.30 billion tonnes in the 2026-27 season. Previously, a production estimate of 1.32 billion tonnes had been forecast for the 2025-26 season.
The top three maize-producing nations include the United States, China, and Brazil. Additionally, it is produced on a large scale in Argentina, India, and Ukraine.
The United States, Brazil, Argentina, Ukraine, and Russia are the major exporting countries. According to the Council, global maize consumption is estimated at 1.31 billion tonnes for the 2025-26 season, which could rise slightly to reach 1.316 billion tonnes in the 2026-27 season.
Alongside its use for food purposes, industrial consumption of maize is also growing rapidly.
