Dubai. During the current year, the pea sowing area in America improved to around 4 lakh hectares and due to favorable weather conditions, its total production is expected to increase to between 8-9 lakh tonnes.
It is known that most of the pea cultivation in America takes place in North Dakota and Montana provinces. The share of yellow peas in this total potential production of 8-9 lakh tonnes is expected to be between 65 to 75 percent.
The domestic demand and consumption of peas in America is increasing every year because its popularity and consumption as animal feed has increased considerably.
It has to be seen how much quantity of peas America needs to import from Canada to meet its domestic demand.
Pea production is also expected to increase in Canada this time. Peas have been exported to America from Canada via road (border).
As far as Ukraine is concerned, the harvesting and preparation of pea crop is going on there. During the current year, peas were sown in an area of a little less than 1.7 lakh hectares and the crop has also suffered some damage due to severe cold in the northern, southern and eastern parts of the country.
The average yield rate of peas in Ukraine is seen between 2.00-2.50 tonnes per hectare and on this basis, the production of peas is estimated to be between 4.25 to 4.75 lakh tonnes.
The contribution of yellow peas is likely to be around 75 percent in this. Ukraine is expected to have an exportable surplus stock of about 3.30 lakh tonnes of peas this year.
Traditionally, most of the peas from Ukraine are exported to Turkey and Spain. But now India has also started importing peas from there, which may affect exports to both those countries.
There is no or negligible previous stock of peas in Ukraine and traders and exporters are waiting for the arrival of new goods.
