New Delhi. The third advance estimate released by the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that the production of other major pulses except urad has increased during the 2024-25 season as compared to 2023-24.
This also includes gram, tuvar and moong. According to the ministry's report, the domestic production of pulses in the entire marketing season of 2023-24 was 242.50 lakh tonnes, which increased by 9.90 lakh tonnes to 252.40 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
During the season under review, the production of gram at the national level is estimated to increase by 3 lakh tons from 110.40 lakh tons to 113.40 lakh tons, tur production is estimated to increase by 1.40 lakh tons from 34.20 lakh tons to 35.60 lakh tons and moong production is estimated to jump by 7.20 lakh tons from 31 lakh tons to 38.20 lakh tons,
whereas the production of urad is expected to decrease by 2.10 lakh tons from 23.20 lakh tons to 21.10 lakh tons. This includes the estimated production of all three seasons - Kharif, Rabi and Zaid.
Industry and trade analysts say that the production of tur has been slightly more than the government estimate, but the production of gram has decreased.
Now once again the time has come for sowing pulses crops during the Kharif season. Although the market price of tuvar, urad and moong has softened in recent months,
which could have decreased farmers' enthusiasm and attraction towards its cultivation, but the government has made a good increase in the minimum support price, due to which it is expected that farmers' interest will remain intact.
The minimum support price of urad has been increased by Rs 400 from Rs 7400 per quintal to Rs 7800 per quintal, and the support price of tuvar has been increased by Rs 450 from Rs 7550 per quintal to Rs 8000 per quintal. The support price of moong has been increased by Rs 86.
