News Capsule: Brazil’s sugar exports likely to fall by 14%
★ Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer, is expected to see a 14.2% decline in sugar exports in the 2026–27 season.
★ Total exports are estimated at around 29 million tonnes, down from 33.8 million tonnes last season.
★ Sugar production is also projected to fall to 40.3 million tonnes, compared to 43.5 million tonnes earlier.
★ Due to high energy prices, mills are diverting more sugarcane toward ethanol production instead of sugar.
★ Ethanol output is expected to rise by 10.7% to 42.58 billion litres.
★ Rising energy prices are driving a shift toward ethanol, which may tighten global sugar supply
