Mumbai: The Union Commerce Minister has stated that El Niño is a global challenge and that it is essential to closely monitor all aspects of the problems arising from it. The government has already announced a substantial increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for kharif crops and has decided to continue subsidies on chemical fertilizers. Strong procurement of paddy, pulses, oilseeds, and cotton at MSP will continue in order to ensure remunerative returns for farmers.

Both the central and state governments are closely monitoring the potential impact of El Niño and a weak monsoon. Every possible measure will be taken to address challenges such as water shortages and other related issues. The government is prepared to tackle any scarcity of water and is making all necessary efforts to protect the interests of the country's farming community.

The government of Maharashtra is also making vigorous efforts to manage the situation effectively. Farmers remain a top priority for the government, and no effort will be spared to safeguard their welfare. Indian farmers are experienced and prudent, and they are expected to choose kharif crops according to the prevailing conditions.

There is no need for panic, as both the central and state governments are actively preparing to deal with any challenges arising from El Niño and potential monsoon deficiencies.
