Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian government has raised the export duty on Crude Palm Oil (CPO) to 10 percent for shipments in May 2026, based on a reference price of 4,521.89 Ringgit per tonne.
Previously, for April, the reference price was assessed at 3,935.19 Ringgit per tonne, and based on that figure, an export duty of 9.5 percent was levied on CPO.
In fact, in Malaysia, adjustments—either reductions or increases—to the CPO export duty are made based on a specific formula or set of rules. Under this framework, if the reference price of Crude Palm Oil remains at or below 2,250 Ringgit per tonne, no export duty is imposed.
Subsequently, a duty of 3 percent is applied for a reference price between 2,250 and 2,400 Ringgit per tonne; 4.5 percent for a price between 2,401 and 2,550 Ringgit; and 6 percent for a price between 2,551 and 2,700 Ringgit.
Similarly, for every increase of 150 Ringgit in the reference price, the export duty rises by 0.5 percent, while an export duty of 10 percent applies to reference prices exceeding 4,050 Ringgit.
