Limited Price Fluctuations Expected in Chana and Urad

Mumbai: During the current week, prices for Chana (Bengal Gram) and Urad (Black Gram) are likely to witness limited fluctuations, as most buyers may show reduced interest in purchasing due to the financial year-end closing in March.
According to a weekly report by a leading trade body—the India Pulses and Grains Association—pressure on Tur (Pigeon Pea) prices may intensify slightly, as its supply and availability remain comfortable while demand fails to keep pace.
According to the report, although the government has approved the procurement of 2.5 million tonnes of Chana this year at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹5,875 per quintal, large-scale procurement has not yet commenced.
In most markets (mandis), Chana prices are currently trading below the MSP, prompting farmers to refrain from aggressive selling. Once the robust arrival of new produce begins in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the pace of government procurement is expected to accelerate, which could provide some support to the Chana market.
