Increase of 86,000 Hectares in Sugarcane Acreage

New Delhi. Despite a reduction in the cultivation area in Uttar Pradesh, the total national area under sugarcane cultivation has risen to 57.58 lakh hectares this season—an increase of 86,000 hectares over the previous year's sown area of ​​56.72 lakh hectares. Reports indicate an expansion in acreage in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

In terms of sugarcane sowing area and production, Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country, followed by Maharashtra in second place and Karnataka in third.

Sugarcane is also cultivated on a large scale in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Meanwhile, sugarcane sowing has concluded in Rajasthan, as evidenced by the fact that the cultivated area there has remained stable at the same level for the past three weeks.

There are reports of damage to the sugarcane crop in some areas due to severe heat and a significant rainfall deficit. However, the region is now receiving good monsoon rains, and the weather conditions during August and September will prove crucial for the crop.
