Government Opens Wheat Exports
★ As per the circular, the government has allowed the export of 25 lakh tonnes of wheat and an additional 5 lakh tonnes of wheat products.
★ In 2025–26, private wheat stocks registered on the portal are reported at 75 lakh tonnes, which is 32 lakh tonnes higher than the same period last year.
★ By 1 April 2026, wheat stocks in the central pool are expected to remain at around 182 lakh tonnes, which supported the decision to open exports.
★ The wheat industry had been demanding export permission for a long time. However, it remains to be seen how exports will take place at the current elevated prices and which countries will be willing to import at these levels.
