Good increase in sowing area of ​​pulses and oilseeds crops

New Delhi. There has been a good increase in the production area of ​​pulses and oilseeds crops during the current Kharif season as compared to last year.

The sowing area of ​​pulses crops jumped from 118.43 lakh hectares last year to 127.77 lakh hectares this time, but remained behind the five-year average area of ​​136.02 lakh hectares.

Although the area of ​​​​tuvar and moth rose above this average area, the sowing area of ​​​​urad remained behind.

According to official data estimates, during the current Kharif season, the production area of ​​​​tur (tuvar) jumped from 40.74 lakh hectares to 46.50 lakh hectares compared to last year, which was more than the normal average area of ​​​​45.55 lakh hectares,

but the sowing area of ​​​​urad decreased from 32.25 lakh hectares to 30.44 lakh hectares. The sowing area of ​​Moth was recorded at 10.32 lakh hectare and the sowing area of ​​other pulses (except green gram) was 4.60 lakh hectare which was more than the normal average area.

As far as Kharif period oilseeds are concerned, their total production area improved by 1.5% from 190.37 lakh hectare last year and reached 193.32 lakh hectare this time which was 1.65% more than the normal average area of ​​190.18 lakh hectare.

Under this, there was a good increase in the sowing area of ​​soybean and groundnut but there was a decline in the area of ​​sesame and castor.

As per the government data received, during the current Kharif season, compared to last year, soybean production area at the national level increased from 123.83 lakh hectare to 125.11 lakh hectare and groundnut sowing area jumped from 43.75 lakh hectare to 47.85 lakh hectare,

but sesame area fell from 12.06 lakh hectare to 11.19 lakh hectare and castor area decreased from 9.23 lakh hectare to 7.67 lakh hectare.
