Indore. The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), a leading industry body, has projected that domestic soybean production will fall by 2.11 percent to 107.93 lakh tonnes for the 2026-27 season. While drought-like conditions in some key producing regions are expected to impact average soybean yields, better conditions in other areas are likely to largely offset these losses.
In its first production estimate for the 2026-27 season, SOPA indicated that soybean output is expected to decline in Maharashtra and Karnataka, while better yields are anticipated in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. These figures were disclosed during the concluding session of SOPA’s International Soybean Conference, held in Indore on October 17.
According to the SOPA report, a prolonged lack of adequate rainfall led to the total destruction of soybean crops across approximately 7.02 lakh hectares in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana, making harvesting impossible. Conversely, in Madhya Pradesh, favorable weather and monsoon conditions have resulted in a very healthy soybean crop. Improvements in average yields and overall production are also expected in Rajasthan.
SOPA estimates that soybean production in Madhya Pradesh—the country’s leading producer—will surge by 32.2 percent, rising from 43.24 lakh tonnes last year to 57.16 lakh tonnes.
