ICE cotton futures closed higher on Monday, gaining between 54 and 90 points. Crude oil prices fell by $7.40 per barrel, while the US Dollar Index rose by 0.083 points.
The weekly Crop Progress report showed that 81% of the US cotton crop had reached the squaring stage by Sunday, in line with the normal pace. Around 45% of the crop had set bolls, matching the five-year average. The crop condition rating improved by 1 percentage point to 46% in the good-to-excellent category, while the Brugler500 index increased by 4 points to 336.
According to the NOAA seven-day precipitation forecast, very limited rainfall is expected across much of Texas, while parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the eastern coastal regions are likely to receive 1 to 2 inches of rainfall over the coming week.
The Cotlook A Index remained unchanged at 90.35 cents per pound on 24 July. ICE-certified cotton stocks also remained unchanged at 94,235 bales on Friday. Meanwhile, the Adjusted World Price (AWP) was reduced by 155 points to 63.82 cents per pound on Thursday and will remain effective through next week.
