China: Soybean Imports from Brazil Rise 9% in June
★ In June 2025, China imported 10.62 million metric tons of soybeans from Brazil, accounting for 86.6% of its total imports.
★ This is a 9.2% increase compared to June 2024, when the figure stood at 9.72 million metric tons.
★ Imports from the U.S. also rose to 1.58 million metric tons, about 12.9% of the total, compared to 1.31 million metric tons last year.
★ Overall, China’s soybean imports in June reached a record high of 12.26 million metric tons for the month.
★ From January to June 2025, China imported a total of 31.86 million metric tons from Brazil — 7.5% lower than the same period last year.
★ Imports from the U.S. during the same period totaled 16.15 million metric tons, up 33% year-on-year.
★ A surge in South American soybean arrivals and sluggish demand have led to a build-up in soymeal inventories in China.
★ Crushing plants are running at high capacity, increasing soymeal output, but slower downstream demand has resulted in just-in-time purchasing and growing stockpiles.
★ Argentina supplied just 1.11 million metric tons of soybeans to China in the first half of 2025 — a 47.5% drop from last year.
★ No shipments from Argentina were recorded in June.
★ Given the current U.S. tariffs, Indonesia’s biodiesel push, and rising Indian import demand, global edible oil prices are expected to trend upward over the next six months.
