Moscow. The condition of food grains and oilseeds-oil market in Russia and Ukraine, located in the Black Sea region, has seen some changes in recent weeks.

In June 2025, the total stock of grains and oilseeds in Russia fell by about 20 percent to 10.75 million tonnes compared to last year. Within this, wheat stock dropped significantly by 27 percent to 5.97 million tonnes, while maize stock improved slightly by 1 percent to 1.5 million tonnes.

However, during the same period, the total stock of oilseeds increased by 3.1 percent to around 1.6 million tonnes, although the stock of sunflower declined by 14.6 percent to 605,000 tonnes.

The new marketing season in Russia is set to begin from July 1, and harvesting and preparation of various crops are expected to gain momentum soon.

In neighbouring Ukraine, the price of sunflower oil has started to rise due to growing global demand. Prices have increased by 200–300 UAH and currently range between 26,500 and 26,800 UAH per tonne.

Meanwhile, the export offer price of sunflower oil has also firmed up to 1,100–1,110 US dollars per tonne at Black Sea ports, which is slightly lower than Russia's offer of 1,130–1,150 dollars per tonne. India remains a major importer of sunflower oil from both countries.

Russia and Ukraine are among the world's largest producers and exporters of sunflower seeds and oil. However, recent heavy bombing by Russia on the critical Ukrainian port of Odessa in the Black Sea has severely damaged infrastructure, making it difficult to export agricultural goods from the region.

Prices of sunflower seeds and oil may come under some pressure with the beginning of the new crop harvest in Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and other parts of Eastern Europe, which could offer some relief to large importing countries like India.
