Castor Oil Exports Reach Approximately 5.60 Lakh Tonnes in Nine Months

Mumbai. Data compiled by a leading industry body, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), reveals that total castor oil exports (in bulk and containers) from India during the first nine months of the current year—January to September 2026—reached 559,729 tonnes, generating revenue of Rs 7,800.52 crore.

In comparison, the entire year of 2025 (January–December) saw exports of 678,167 tonnes, yielding Rs 9,105.73 crore, while 2024 recorded shipments of 694,610 tonnes, generating Rs 8,578.01 crore. Prior to that, in 2023, India exported 629,418 tonnes of castor oil, valued at Rs 8,190.05 crore. It is noteworthy that India is the world’s leading producer of castor seeds and the largest exporter of castor oil, maintaining its dominance in the global castor oil export market.

According to the SEA report, castor oil exports from the country in 2026 were as follows: 47,210 tonnes in January, 51,505 tonnes in February, 79,888 tonnes in March, 94,234 tonnes in April, 96,995 tonnes in May, 52,152 tonnes in June, 45,659 tonnes in July, 43,382 tonnes in August, and 48,704 tonnes in September.

The above data indicates that, during April–May, exports of castor oil from the country surged to a new monthly record high. In Gujarat—the country’s leading castor-producing state—the arrival of the new castor crop is substantial during March–April, which leads to a large-scale production of castor oil. This season, however, there has been a decline in the area sown with castor.
